Modeling space, time and matter with quantum properties is one of the most pivotal challenges in physics to understand the world at distances comparable to the Planck length. Almost all attempts assume a metric space and are based on differential geometry of a continuous real manifold and complex fields. Approaches starting with only a finite number of points and extending the notion of space to the more general projective geometry have not been pursued due to the lack of an order relation, real distances and complex numbers, which were considered to be necessary mathematical concepts for describing the world.
This lecture course explores the possibility to formulate physics on finite fields. It covers finite mechanics, finite electrodynamics, finite quantum mechanics and a finite standard model for elementary particles. The necessary mathematics, in particular finite geometry, will be introduced.
