- The seminar is a hands-on course on applied structural optimization. It is based on the academic finite element simulation and structural optimization software CFS++ developed at the FAU and TU Wien.
There is no explicit prerequisite, albeit knowledge in optimization (e.g. Optimization for Engineers) and experience with a scripting language (e.g. Python) helps. The course is best suited for students of computational engineering and for math students to complete with lectures on structural optimization. The seminar can be scheduled to another day/ time if necessary.
- Inhalt
- Interleaved with lectures providing the theoretical background, the students will perform exercises at the seminar dates.
The topics of the exercises are:
finite element simulation of mechanical problems
standard topology optimization: stiffness maximization
obtaining non-trivial designs: mechanism design (force-inverter, gripper)
advanced topology optimization (manufacturing constraints)
material design (periodic micro structures): design of meta-material
piezoelectric simulation and topology optimization (energy harvester)
The students need to perform the exercises and give an individual final presentation.
