- In this seminar we will read and analyse the most important lyrical texts of the 18th century. After a brief survey of the history of poetry in England before 1700 we will focus on poems and lyrical texts written byJonathan Swift, Ambrose Philips, Alexander Pope, James Thompson, SamuelJohnson, Thomas Gray, Edward Young und William Cowper.
