- Inhalt
- The seminar will try to re-construct British literature and culture in the 1930s, with an emphasis on the intersections and conflicts between the public and the private, modernism and mass culture, experimental writing and documentary, word and image, national and international, poetry and prose, collective and individual imagination, utopias and nightmares. This course is not a straightforward chronological survey of the decade's productions, but something more synchronic and thematic -- a typology of the period's collective obsessions, aspirations, and fears. We proceed through a series of readings of representative 1930s texts, organized around points of cultural, literary and political debate.
