- Inhalt
- This seminar will deal with different theories of meaning and the question of which linguistic units can rightly be called units of meaning. The focus will be not so much on boring traditional morphemes and words (whatever words are) but on multi-word combinations and abstract syntactic constructions, taking into account the findings of post-1990s corpus linguistics and cognitive linguistics.
Discussions will include questions such as
what kinds of linguistic units carry meaning
how the insights of modern linguistics can be usefully applied to language learning and language teaching
to what extent these insights shatter structuralist views about the way language is organised.
SHOULD THERE BE A WAITING LIST FOR THIS SEMINAR I ASK EVERYBODY ON THE WAITING LIST TO COME TO THE FIRST SESSION IN ORDER TO SEE WHETHER PLACES HAVE BECOME AVAILABLE. FAILURE TO ATTEND FOR THE FIRST CLASS WILL RESULT IN LOSING THE PLACE.
Topics for presentations in class will be available from September onwards in my Sprechstunden.
