- Inhalt
- Cognitive linguistics is one of the more recent branches of linguistics, dating back only a few decades. It has offered a completely new view on language, turning away from structuralist and generativist paradigms, but trying to describe language according to how humans perceive and conceptualize the world in their minds. New linguistic models for the description of language were developed as a consequence. In this seminar, we are going to explore the major theories of cognitive linguistics (esp. cognitive semantics) and familiarize ourselves with the range of topics and approaches that emerged. We will furthermore see which influence cognitive linguistics has had on other fields of linguistics such as pragmatics, textlinguistics or wordformation. Analyses and exercises are going to round off the course.Participants are expected to participate actively in the seminar and to do a certain amount of weekly reading.
