- Inhalt
- Cognitive Pragmatics combines two disciplines that seem disparate at first sight: Cognitive Linguistics attempts to explain how humans process language. Pragmatics studies the principles which speakers follow when interacting with each other in communication and which allow speakers to derive plausible meaning beyond that of the proposition. Both disciplines are integrated in Cognitive Pragmatics, which devises models of the human mind that permit the construal of meaning in context.
This course begins by providing an overview of the foundations of both Cognitive Linguistics and Pragmatics. It then moves on to discuss (among other things) the cognitive principles of pragmatic competence, how pragmatic competence is acquired and how non-explicit and non-literal meaning can be construed in the communicative context.
