- Das Thematische Kombinationsmodul (Linguistics/Literary Studies/Cultural Studies) gehört im BA English and American Studies (neu) zum Zwischenmodul I: Thematisches Kombinationsmodul (Zulassungsvoraussetzung Basismodul Linguistics und Basismodul Literature).
- Inhalt
- The linguistic part of this course provides an introduction to varieties of English, focusing mainly on regional and social variation in the UK and the US. Topics include methods of native speaker English dialectology, speech communities and social networks, language variation and gender, bi- and multilingualism, diglossia, code-switching, language change, attitudes to language variation, and language and power.

In the cultural studies section, we will look at how cultural difference (race/ethnicity, gender, class...) is encoded in specific American cultural and historical contexts. We will take a closer look at various theoretical conceptualization of cultural difference and use our theoretical framework for readings of literature, film, and other forms of popular culture.
