- Inhalt
- When we communicate with each other, we obviously use words. But the mere understanding of these words is often not enough to understand what we mean. But how do we actually use language and what are the linguistic principles underlying our communication? These are the questions that this seminar is going to tackle. After a thorough study of basic pragmatic principles, such as implicature, speech act theory and conversational analysis, we will have a look at e.g. the pragmatic principles of humour or politeness, at the language of emotions and miscommunication or that of conflict talk.Recommended preparatory reading: Levinson, Stephen C. 1983. Pragmatics.
