- Das Mittelseminar/HS Linguistics gehört in folgenden Studiengängen jeweils zu folgenden Modulen:
- Inhalt
- Linguistic variation and linguistic change are commonly regarded as substantial qualities of natural languages. This seminar explores the relation obtaining between variation and change in present-day English. We are going to consider different types of linguistic variation (e.g. regional variation) and ongoing changes in present-day English on various levels of language (e.g. syntax and spelling). Furthermore, we are going to consider various general issues, such as whether free variation exists, why and how language changes and whether there are observable patterns which may even permit the prediction of future changes (or not).
