- Das PS Literature gehört in folgenden Studiengängen jeweils zu folgenden Modulen:

- Since the 1970s, Canada has been officially promoting a policy whose aim is "to [...] recognize and promote the understanding that multiculturalism reflects the cultural and racial diversity of Canadian society and acknowledges the freedom of all members of Canadian society to preserve, enhance, and share their cultural heritage" (Canadian Multiculturalism Act). This "politics of difference" (Thompson) has been widely criticized as an ethnocentric "policy of containment" (Kamboureli) based on "biological and racial biases" (Darias-Beautell): "Ethnicity, for the dominant culture, may be just a codeword for the foreign. This view of ethnicity sanctions ignorance while proclaiming the virtues of cultural tolerance. [...] ''Ethnics'' are awarded a special status, so long as they keep their distance" (Huggan). In the seminar, literature by Canadian authors with Sri Lankan, Guyanese and Trinidadian backgrounds will be discussed in relation to Canadian multiculturalism, the connection of ''race'' and ethnicity, and ''Canadianness,'' asking if and how ''ethnic'' Canadian literature may variously embrace or critique the category of ethnicity.
