- Over the past years, the teaching of subject matter like history, geography, or biology in English has become increasingly popular in Germany. The aim of this course is explore different concepts of bilingual education in Germany and abroad such as immersion, CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and "Bilingualer Sachfachunterricht". Furthermore, various theoretical backgrounds and research studies on bilingual education will be considered in depth. Finally, we will also discuss implications for teaching such as the role of the learners‘ L1 (and related factors) in a foreign language classroom.
Requirements for this block seminar are regular attendance, active oral participation, a group presentation and a term paper.
