- Das Seminar zur Sprachgeschichte gehört in folgenden Studiengängen jeweils zu folgendenModulen:
Lehramt Englisch an Gymnasien (neu): Zwischenmodul L-GYM Linguistics. (Zulassungsvoraussetzung: Basismodul Linguistics)
- Inhalt
- After the Norman Conquest English loses its status as an official language. Due to the lack of a standard language, Middle English is characterised by dialectal variety. In this class we will take a look at the phonology, morphology, lexis and syntax of Middle English. We will discuss various (non)linguistic factors that shaped Middle English in general and the dialect of London, which forms the basis of Modern English, in particular. We will read a longer excerpt from Chaucer''s Canterbury Tales as well as some other shorter texts by other authors to give us a better understanding of the nature of Middle English.
