Inhalt
Asia is the economic powerhouse of the world economy and its countries are deeply interconnected with states from other world regions such as Europe and the Americas. As such East Asian states share an interest with their counterparts from the West to manage interdependencies in various issue areas not only in their respective region but also on the global level of cooperation. Against this empirical and a selected theoretical background (i.e. international regime theory, multilevel governance and theories of institutional interplay or interaction) this seminar seeks to elaborate on the following questions: How do East Asian states contribute to global governance processes and dialogues in the issue areas of trade, finance and security? How do institutional mechanisms or international regimes interact with regional governance systems in East Asia? Do these interactions result in a division of labour or competition between regional and global institutions?
