- Inhalt
- The course looks at two expressions of the political role of the firm, being the private provision of public goods (CSR as individual practice) and participating in various forms of collective action for shared rules (CSR as collective self-regulation). Starting from the phenomenon of globalization and what it means for multinational corporations, the course looks at governance gaps on the local and global level and how these can be filled by companies both on an individual and collective level. One focus will be CSR and its concepts for individual firms. The second focus will be on the rise of multi-stakeholder initiatives or new governance, such as can be seen with the UN Global Compact or industry initiatives such as the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) Code of Conduct for the electronic industry or the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) for the extractive industries.
