- Inhalt
- As the most important economy in Latin America and host country for the FIFA World Cup in 2014, Brazil has made international headlines over the past years. Understanding the ‘South American Giant’, however, requires a knowledge that goes beyond media reports on the country’s current affairs. This seminar will offer a profound introduction into Brazilian history, society, politics, economy and foreign relations after 1945 and will enable the student to understand the key developments and challenges of the South American power.
The seminar will be organized in four thematic blocks: History (I), Politics and Society (II), Economy (III) and Foreign Policy (IV). Each block will deal with crucial developments in Brazil’s modern history and current affairs.
The language of the seminar will be English. Reading Portuguese is not required, but may be of help in order to understand Brazilian academic literature that will serve as additional basis for the different thematic blocks.
