The purpose of the seminar lies in the gathering of experience in performing a talk about a scientific theme in the field of manufacturing automation and production systems. The course of the seminar can be described as follows: After a theme from a list of proposed topics is chosen, the student has to do both gather well–founded knowledge and prepare a well–structured talk. The talk should be held as fluently as possible and the time consumed for the talk should exceed 20 minutes under no circumstances. The talk is then followed by a 5 to 10 minutes lasting discussion in which the student has to justify himself. Additionally a scientifically–correct paper has to be handed in, that is not more than two pages long and concentrates on the presentation of the central theme, the figures displayed on the transparencies and the scientific literature used. The evaluation of the entire performance comprises the following points: Besides the compliance with the time, also the rhetoric and the quality of the materials used (transparencies etc.) are subject to the evaluation process. But also the cooperation with the assistant professor and the ability of the student to work on his own are considered.
