- In this course, key texts in/on US-American culture and civilization from 1492 to the present as well as representations of the 'new world' as paradise, wilderness, melting pot, as a space for individual and collective expansion, as a political utopia, and as an ostensibly classless society will be discussed along with more critical conceptualizations of 'America' in regard to the position of women, ethnic groups, and the history and legacy of US imperialism.
