Inhalt:

The on-site individual practice, supporting the lecture “Transmission System Operations and Control”, demonstrates students how the TSO monitors, manages and controls the national and interconnected network. The practice is organised in the cooperation with the TSO - Swissgrid. The practice is a unique opportunity for students to recognise the role of the TSOs in ensuring the security of electricity supply on national and international level as Swissgrid performs also the function of the Coordination Centre for southern Europe. Implementation of the physics laws and their mathematical representation for the operation of the transmission system. The load-frequency control complex process from dimensioning of operational reserves until SCADA/EMS systems functionalities. Implementation of the theory of reactive power / voltage control. Integration of WAM system measurements philosophy in the system operation. Modelling of the system. Investigation of the related processes: Long term operational planning process includes the planning of outages and set up the reference model of Swiss transmission system. In the short term operational planning process the Continental European network model is being merged and checked. In case of discovered contingencies the remedial actions are proposed and implemented. state estimation calculations in the real-time operation including operational security analysis, real-time congestion management and remedial actions. Data and information exchange internally and among TSOs in Europe.

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

  • Analyze and model of the operational processes
  • Transformation of the physical phenomena in the network calculations softwares

  • Transformation of the physical phenomena in the control automatics and actions

  • Examine and interpret the numerical results with the use of their engineering knowledge

  • Gain experience in dealing with complexity of transmission system operation

Organisatorisches:

Participation in the module Transmission System Operations and Control (Netz- und Systemführung) is required. High average study grade results of the dedicated placement test, based on the scope of the lecture.
