Empfohlene Voraussetzungen:

To succeed in this course, students will need to apply acquired knowledge from e.g. fluid mechanics, solid mechanics and mathematics. A solid background in mathematics is required, since differential equations and integrals form the basis for the description of the fluid dynamic processes and their kinematics. Basic knowledge in thermodynamics and fluid simulation is beneficial.

Inhalt:

• Classification and work transfer in pumps and turbines

  • Fluid mechanical fundamentals of turbomachinery

  • Efficiency, characteristics and operating behavior

  • Characteristic numbers

  • Design procedure

  • CFD simulation

  • Low-noise turbomachines

  • Application: fans and blowers

  • Application: wind turbines

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

Students who participate in this course will become familiar with basic concepts of pumps and turbines.

Students who successfully participate in this module:

  • Can select adequate pumps and turbines for different applications

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the different types of turbomachinery and their limitations and possibilities in the various fields of application

  • Can design rotors and turbines

  • Are familiar with the use of turbomachines in accordance with the latest environmental protection guidelines

  • Can determine the entire process from the given boundary conditions, objective design and simulation to the construction of impellers

  • Gain experience in practical realization for industrial applications
