Die Teilnehmer sind selber verantwortlich, versäumte Sitzungen selbständig nachzuholen, fehlende Kursmaterialien zu besorgen, und Pflichtaufgaben ggf. nachzureichen.

PRÜFUNG
Die Abschlussklausur (schriftliche Prüfung, 60 Minuten) findet für alle Gruppen am Samstag, 5. Juli 2014 statt. Raum und Uhrzeit entnehmen Sie bitte dem Terminplan für die Abschlussklausuren, die ab Anfang Mai auf StudOn veröffentlicht wird. Studierende, die aufgrund der regelmäßigen Teilnahme am Unterricht zur Teilnahme an einer Prüfung berechtigt sind, werden verbindlich dafür angemeldet. Eine Prüfungsanmeldung über mein campus ist möglich aber nicht erforderlich, da sämtliche Noten automatisch eingetragen werden. Die Prüfungsnummer ist 30153.

LEISTUNGSNACHWEIS
Studierende, die diesen Kurs erfolgreich abschließen, erfüllen die Mindestanforderung der Prüfungsordnung (Nachweis der Fremdsprachenkompetenz) und erhalten neben dem Leistungsnachweis auch eine entsprechende Bescheinigung zur Vorlage beim Landesjustizprüfungsamt, sofern diese noch nicht aufgrund einer bestandenen Prüfung in einer anderen Sprache ausgestellt wurde.

WIEDERHOLUNGSMÖGLICHKEIT / FOLGEN EINER NOCHT BESTANDENEN PRÜFUNG
Dieser Kurs wird jedes Semester angeboten. Eine nicht bestandene Prüfung muss wiederholt werden. Teilnehmer, die die Note 5,0 bekommen (= weniger als 50% der Punkte), müssen den gesamten Kurs wiederholen. Teilnehmer, die die Note 4,7 erreichen (= mindestens 50% der Punkte), dürfen die Prüfung zum nächsten regulären Termin (am Samstag, 24. Januar 2015) wiederholen, ohne den Kurs noch mal besuchen zu müssen. Teilnehmer müssen in diesem Fall unbedingt ihre(n) Kursleiter(in) kontaktieren, um die nicht-bestandene Prüfung einzusehen und zu besprechen. Wird die Prüfung in solchen Fällen nicht zum nächsten Termin abgelegt, muss danach der gesamte Kurs wiederholt werden. Eine Wiederholung zur Notenverbesserung ist ausgeschlossen.

Inhalt:

Der Kurs bietet den Teilnehmern eine Einführung in das anglo-amerikanische Rechtssystem, fördert den Erwerb grundlegender juristischer Fachterminologie, und vermittelt das entsprechende juristische Fachwissen.

Die Hauptthemen, mit denen sich die Kursteilnehmer beschäftigen werden, beziehen sich hauptsächlich auf Großbritannien und die USA, wobei andere englischsprachige Länder nicht ausgeschlossen werden.

Die Teilnehmer werden die wesentlichen Fachbegriffe aus Themenbereichen wie z.B. die Gerichte, die juristischen Berufe, Rechssystem und Verfassungsrecht erlernen. Rechtsvergleichend werden dabei in englischer Sprache auch verwandte Themen aus dem deutschen oder dem europäischen Recht behandelt.

In this class you will be offered the opportunity to gain confidence in speaking English through speaking English. The emphasis will be on making you more comfortable in speaking English and your tutor’s aim will be rather to help you with vocabulary and pronunciation and with the rhythm and stress of the language than to demand strict grammatical accuracy. The topics for discussion will range from subjects of general interest to the more academic.

Some of these topics will be chosen by your tutor but you will also be asked to speak about your own particular areas of interest or to research subjects of interest to you so that you can share the gathered information with the other members of the class. Your grade will be based on:

The course grade will be determined by a short speech recording and continuous assessment.

The law of obligations is the term used to group together two distinct fields of law: the law of torts and contract law.

This course focuses on the acquisition of the core legal terminology used in these two fields by learning about the fundamental legal principles in these areas. In addition to that, you will discover what procedures are involved in taking a civil case to court and the terminology employed in civil procedural law.

The course will place equal weighting on all the four language learning skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

This course first introduces students to the terminology and procedures involved in bringing a criminal case to trial, the trial itself, the rules of evidence and how offenders are sentenced. Students will then study the basic concepts of substantive criminal law by looking at the elements of a crime, specific offences against property and crimes against the person and possible defences, as well as the language used in this field.

Inhalt:

Private Law A covers three separate areas of private law: company and commercial law, intellectual property and competition law.

In company and commercial law you will look at the formation of companies, consider the differences between German, English and American corporate structures, learn and use company-related vocabulary and terminology, discover what commercial law encompasses and the laws which govern it, and consider when relevant legislation such as the Sale of Goods Act (UK), the Uniform Commercial Code (USA) and the the European Convention on Contracts for the Sale of Goods (CISG) come into play.

Intellectual property covers the various protection rights such as copyright, patents, design rights and trademarks. You will look at these in the context of the commercial areas which they influence and consider some of the issues surrounding the protection of these rights through legislation and case law.

Competition law deals with the objectives of legal protection and the different areas of regulation concerning anti-competitive behaviour, also considering the relationship which exists between competition and IP law. This course will help students to improve their English language skills in various fields of the law by confronting them with situations in which they will be required to switch effectively and quickly between German and English.

In the context of written texts, students will be expected to translate legal documents from and, in particular, into English. In addition to this, students will undertake interpreting exercises in which they will be expected to act as a linguistic mediator between a German-speaking party and an English-speaking party. The aim of the course is thus to practise the vocabulary acquired in the level 2 and level 3 courses in a situation where time is of the essence.

Dieser Kurs darf ausschließlich von Rechtsreferendaren am OLG-Nürnberg belegt werden. Die Anmeldung erfolgt online ab 26. März 2014. Informationen zur Anmeldung und zur Kursteilnahme erhalten Sie von der Referendarstelle am Oberlandesgericht Nürnberg ab September, bzw. über die Arbeitsgemeinschaften.

Dieser Kurs gehört zu den Zusatzqualifikationen für Referendare in Nürnberg und wird in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Bayerischen Staatsministerium der Justiz und für Verbraucherschutz angeboten und vom Freistaat Bayern bezuschusst.

Teilnehmer sollen gute allgemeine Englischkenntnisse besitzen, Vorkenntnisse des englischen Rechts und der juristischen Fachsprache sind jedoch nicht zwingend erforderlich.

Der Kurs bietet Gelegenheit, eventuell während des Studiums erworbene Fachsprachkenntnisse zu vertiefen, sowie neue zu erwerben.

Inhalt:

Es werden u.a. folgende juristische Themen behandelt: Die juristischen Berufe, der Zivilprozess, Verträge, Gesellschaftsrecht, Recht des geistigen Eigentums. Alle vier Sprechfertigkeiten (Lesen, Schreiben, Hören, Sprechen) werden geübt.

Neben der Vermittlung der juristischen Terminologie und juristisches Wissens liegt die Betonung auf der praxis-relevanter Kommunikation und der aktiven Verwendung der juristischen Fachsprache. Um diese zu trainieren, werden Teilnehmer z.B. Situationen aus dem juristischen Alltag (Verhandlungen, Mandantenschreiben, Vertragsformulierungen, in einer Sitzung Notizen machen usw.) durchspielen.

Empfohlene Literatur:

Sämtliche Materialien werden online oder im Kurs zur Verfügung gestellt.

This course is aimed at upper-intermediate to advanced students in the natural sciences. Students will be taught how to write a review paper and how to give short oral presentations of recently published research papers. Inhalt:

This course is a revision course specifically for students planning to take the UNIcert III examination in English on September 20th 2013. Participants will have an opportunity to revise the main tasks required in the examination and will be given a mock examination.
