Contents
Virginia Woolf is looked upon as one of the most important representatives of literary modernism in England. In this seminar, we will analyse Woolf's short stories and essays before we discuss her novels Mrs Dalloway (1925), To the Lighthouse (1927), and Orlando (1928) against the backdrop of both fin-de-siècle and early 20th-century aesthetics. We will also focus on the rise of the psychological novel and the role of art in Woolf's narratives. Since Woolf was a central member of the famous "Bloomsbury Group" we will pay special attention to the work of this intellectual coterie of writers, artist, and scientists.
