- In this seminar we are going to take a broad perspective to morphology and word formation. We will start with the general building blocks of language and how they are typically combined to form words, look at various word-formation mechanisms and inflectional morphology from a descriptive, theoretical and psycholinguistic/cognitive-linguistic perspective. Diachronic aspects of English morphology will also be covered.
Students are expected to read the required reading, which will be made available on StudOn. Presentations need to be pre-recorded and will be discussed online via Zoom. Since it is one of the major aims of a Hauptseminar to have discussions with your peers, you will be expected to participate in online classes with a working camera and microphone.
