Prerequisites / Organisational information
Das Pro-/Mittelseminar Linguistics gehört in folgenden Studiengängen jeweils zu folgenden Modulen:
  • BA English and American Studies: Zwischenmodul II Linguistics. (Zulassungsvoraussetzung: Zwischenmodul I: Thematisches Kombinationsmodul)

  • Lehramt Englisch an Gymnasien: Zwischenmodul L-GYM Linguistics. (Zulassungsvoraussetzung: Basismodul Linguistics; Studienbeginn ab WS 2020/21: beide Basismodule Linguistics)

  • Lehramt Englisch an Grund-, Haupt- und Realschulen: Seminarmodul L-UF Linguistics. (Zulassungsvoraussetzung: Elementarmodul Linguistics; Studienbeginn ab WS 2020/21: beide Elementarmodule Linguistics)

Students will give a presentation and write a term paper.

In case of online teaching: Since it is one of the major aims of a seminar to have discussions with your peers, you will be expected to participate in online classes with a working camera and microphone.

Contents
While English is spoken all over the world, its forms and functions are quite varied. We will start with English as a native language and then move on to postcolonial varieties. Our comparisons will encompass a wide range of parameters, including phonetics/phonology, morphology, lexis, syntax, as well as social and situational factors. The textbook listed below will be be the basis of this class.
