- Die Veranstaltung ist partizipativ angelegt, entsprechend wird eine Teilnahmepflicht durchgesetzt.
Die zu bearbeitenden Filme müssen aufgrund ihrer Länge weitgehend außerhalb des regulären Seminarzeitraums ausgewertet werden. Dieser Aufwand ist durch die Abrechnung der Veranstaltung mit 5 ECTS-Punkten gedeckt, muss aber in die eigene Semesterplanung mit einbezogen werden. Die Arbeit mit Literatur und Quellen in englischer Sprache ist im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltung verpflichtend. Leistungsnachweis in der Veranstaltung wird über Kurzpräsentationen erbracht.

- Hollywood, success- and consumer-driven, has in its own way always been a mirror of American society. For a very long time primarily oriented to the needs, inclinations and prejudices of a white mainstream society, it can also be understood as a seismograph of developments from segregation to the Civil Rights Movement and the contemporary everyday racism in the USA. After a discussion of race and racism, the seminar aims to systematically evaluate films to identify the stereotypes, clichés, and prejudices that Hollywood has used in its dealings with minorities, to critically translate them back into their historical context.
